Atypical employment models, of the past years and decades of dwindling terms and conditions for pilots all over Europe are well known and are impacting all of us. We have to expect that this will continue to influence our profession even here in Luxembourg. It not only that operators that largely benefit from questionable employment models and avoid pilot representation these models are a direct threat to existing airline operations in Luxembourg. Furthermore these atypical employment models, remuneration systems and terms and conditions are taken as a blue print by managements in collective bargaining negotiations in Luxembourg.
The crowdfund comes in the aftermath of the recent flight cancellation crisis in Europe. The last weeks have shown that there is a new generation of pilots who will not be silenced, denied their fundamental right to freedom of association, or discouraged from organising collective negotiations, principles that we have. These pilots want to choose their own representatives, to stand up and speak on their behalf, without fear of punishment or even worse – losing their job. They want to have the same rights as we have maintained for many years!
One key element to stop the erosion of our terms and working conditions is to have all European pilots represented and to ensure that those who step up to lead those pilots not fearing that they would lose their job and livelihood. Something we have as ALPL since nearly 50 years in Luxembourg.
The main purpose of this crowdfunding campaign is to provide financial security to pilot leaders, having distinguished themselves as representatives in the struggle for collective representation. We’ve got your back. This is all the European pilot community wants to say.
The fund is administered by the European Cockpit Association (ECA) on behalf of the entire pilot community. Detailed information on how the #PilotUnity fund will be administered are available on ECA’s website.
Your ALPL Boards encourage you to take part in this crowdfunding. No amount is too small and as a more than 30.000 colleague strong community of European airline pilots we can make a difference.
